How good is the IPL? Time and time again, the tournament delivers top-of-the-range entertainment, and this was just that.
Rajasthan Royals up against Punjab Kings promised to be a classic. And it turned out to be the case. Just as was the case at Sharjah in October, both these sides played out a 200 vs 200 thriller, with a number of incredible performances.
Top of the tree was new Royals skipper Sanju Samson, who once again started an IPL season in brilliant fashion. His century was a thing of beauty, and came within metres of outdoing the brilliance of KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda for Kings Punjab. It was an innings deserving of victory, but he fell agonisingly short, much to the disappointment of fans.
In the end, Riley Meredith and Arshdeep Singh held their nerve well to seal a tight victory for the Kings to start their season off on a positive note. As the pandemic continues to be rife throughout the world, matches like these provide a great escape. Here are the Twitter reactions to a remarkable game of cricket:
