England and New Zealand are expected to challenge in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Preparations for the showpiece tournament will ramp up in the four-match ODI series next week. But, before then, the two teams will engage in a four-match T20I series, where bench strength will be tested with the T20 World Cup nine months away.

England’s white-ball depth is clear for all to see. The sheer number of options they have in their squad will make any final XI a difficult one for New Zealand to cope with. Harry Brook, for instance, is in outstanding form, while Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow can send shivers down the spine of any attack.

So, the immediate question for New Zealand is whether they can keep the hosts in check. That is a difficult task, so the batsmen need to do their bit to increase hopes of victory. The Black Caps welcome back Finn Allen and Devon Conway, an opening partnership that can set a strong platform. In terms of finishing, Glenn Phillips has a key role with Jimmy Neesham unavailable.
