Pat Cummins is on track to be fit to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cummins missed the Champions Trophy due to both the impending birth of his second child and an ankle injury suffered in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but is now bowling again.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Cummins said his ankle rehab has gone well. His next focus will be bowling regularly for the next few weeks to be ready for the IPL and World Test Championship Final.

“The ankle is all going strong, [have been] able to give it a good rest and then been building up slowly, which you don’t get to do when you play lots of cricket,” Cummins said.

“It’s feeling as strong as it has for a fair while. Should be fine [for the IPL], that’s the plan. So have a few weeks of bowling, building back up and then hopefully don’t have to worry about it for a while.”

Australia’s Test and ODI captain revealed his ankle is something he manages on a regular basis. It flared up during the thrilling Boxing Day Test against India, where Cummins played a crucial role in Australia’s victory which put them 2-1 up in the series.

“It’s something that we’ve opted never to have surgery on or intervene too much, just a lot to rehab,” said Cummins. “Having this break meant that I could get a couple of cortisones and really rehab it well the last couple of weeks.”

Cummins is set to lead SRH again in what promises to be another exciting year. The franchise, with Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen in their ranks, broke all kinds of records in 2024, including 125/0 in the powerplay against Delhi Capitals. They reached the final but saved their worst performance till last, knocked over for 113 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

SRH will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on March 23.
