The Kolkata weather has had an impact on IPL 2026, with the Kolkata Knight Riders-Punjab Kings match on April 6 ending in a no result.
Only 3.4 overs were possible before pre-monsoon “Kalbaisakhi” storms hit, where Ajinkya Rahane’s team were reduced to 25/2 courtesy of Xavier Bartlett’s excellent opening spell.
As a result, KKR now sit second last with two defeats and a no result. Despite the IPL season still in its early stages, KKR need to get moving, starting with their crunch clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday.
Kolkata weather forecast: Will rain impact the KKR vs LSG match?
Rain and wind in the leadup to the KKR-LSG match has raised concerns of another washout. However, AccuWeather forecasts mostly clear conditions with no chance of precipitation from 7pm onwards.
In fact, the hourly forecast predicts clear conditions from 8pm, which can bring dew into play.
In their match preview, cricbuzz also painted a pretty promising picture, also outlining the role pacers could play in the KKR-LSG matchup. Mohammed Shami is fresh of a man-of-the-match performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he took 2/9 off four overs and dismissed both openers.
“The weather prediction for the game, specifically during match time, is largely clear,” wrote cricbuzz’s Aadya Sharma.
“Xavier Bartlett managed to get some early zip from the surface, while SRH effectively employed cutters in the middle overs. The frequent showers may have left the outfield a bit sluggish though.”
LSG could move into the top four with a win while KKR can get their season going with three points from four matches should they emerge victorious.
