Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to become the youngest player to feature for the India men’s national team. According to a report in Indian Express, the 15-year-old is in contention for a debut during India’s two-match T20I tour of Ireland in June.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi takes IPL by storm, set to be picked for India
According to the aformentioned report, a source said that Sooryavanshi is in contention for the tour.
“He is in contention for the Ireland tour and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” said the official.
Sooryavanshi has been outstanding in the 2026 Indian Premier League after announcing himself to the IPL stage with a 38-ball 101 in 2025. He has smashed 200 runs in the first five matches at an eyewatering strike rate of 263.15.
His golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only blemish in what has been a terrific campaign to date. He has taken experienced bowlers to the cleaners, hitting a 26-ball 78 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a 17-ball 52 against Chennai Super Kings and a 14-ball 39 against Mumbai Indians. This includes two sixes off the first three balls he faced from the great Jasprit Bumrah.
Should Sooryavanshi continue his excellent form, selectors are reportedly considering picking him for India’s tour of Zimbabwe later this year. The left-hander has fond memories of Zimbabwe, smashing 175 off 80 balls in the ICC U19 World Cup Final against England in Harare in February.
