BCCI announce 15-member squad for the Ind vs Eng ODIs.
The BCCI has named the 15-member squad for India’s three-match ODI tour to England and it’s a clear indication of where the future of the white-ball format lies. Shubman Gill will lead the side in English conditions and Shreyas Iyer has been appointed his deputy.
The squad features an interesting mix of returning legends and a hungry group of young pacers, setting up a highly anticipated clash against a strong England side in their own backyard.
The return of veteran heavyweights like Virat Kohli and ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah comes as a massive boost for the contingent. Their presence will be crucial to anchor a relatively young squad in English conditions. Left-arm all-rounder Axar Patel also returns to add strength to the spin department. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan will share the wicketkeeping duties.
India’s full ODI squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli*, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar.
Virat Kohli must pass a fitness test at COE for a match-fit certificate
The announcement’s biggest headline is all about Virat Kohli. His name is firmly on the team list but his travel plans are not set in stone yet. Kohli’s inclusion is purely on the basis of a fitness test at the Centre of Excellence (COE). He will have to pass his assessments and get an official match-fit certificate before he can join the playing squad on the field.
More difficult note is that mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been left out of the tour altogether. He is currently unavailable as he is in the final stages of his rehabilitation program at the COE. The spinner is still recovering from a left foot injury he suffered during the high-stakes matches of the TATA IPL 2026, forcing selectors to look elsewhere for their spin options.
