The Bangladesh Cricket Board is accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for its international media rights, which includes India’s postponed white-ball tour of Bangladesh scheduled for later this year. There has been no official statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but the latest move by the BCB has raised hopes that cricketing ties between the two neighbours could return to some normalcy.

BAN vs IND series was originally postponed due to political grudges

Political tensions have affected sporting ties between the two countries, which dominated headlines earlier in the year. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman ahead of IPL 2026. Soon after, Bangladesh requested for their T20 World Cup matches to be moved out of India citing security concerns, which was rejected by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Tigers were then replaced by Scotland.

The six-match white ball series between India and Bangladesh, which included three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals, had earlier been postponed as a result. At that time, the BCCI had cited a congested international calendar instead of scrapping it altogether, but the tensions were clear.

Relations between the two cricket boards seem to be gradually improving despite the difficult phase and some recent developments point after the change of interim Bangladeshi government. One such hint came when BCCI reportedly did not agree to Sri Lanka Cricket’s request for three more T20 Internationals during India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka after the two-match Test series, leaving space for the Bangladesh assignment later in the calendar.

Also, secretary Devajit Saikia had said that the Indian board follow the Government of India and not the political situation in Bangladesh. His comments only further strengthen the stand that any final decision on the bilateral series will be taken in accordance with the advice of the government.

No official confirmation as yet, but there is hope the series may go ahead

The schedule is yet to be formally confirmed but the inclusion of India’s proposed tour in the BCB’s media rights tender has raised hopes that the long-awaited bilateral series going ahead. The tender is some indication that preparations for the tour are still alive behind the scenes until the BCCI makes an official announcement.
