England have never lost a Women’s World Cup Final on home soil. They have played four matches dating back to 1973, producing outstanding performances on each occasion.

This could serve as a good omen for Nat Sciver-Brunt’s team against Australia. The archrivals will go head-to-head in the T20 World Cup Final on Sunday July 5 at Lord’s.

Unbeaten: England’s 100% record in home Women’s World Cup Finals

1973 ODI World Cup Final: England beat Australia by 92 runs

Enid Bakewell’s century headlined England’s outstanding performance in the 1973 ODI World Cup Final against Australia at Birmingham. Bakewell hit 118, supported by Lynne Thomas (40) and Rachael Hayhoe-Flint (64) to set the foundation for their score of 279/3 off 60 overs.

Australia openers Bev Wilson (41) and Jackie Porter (57) put on 62 for the opening partnership, but the Aussies were never in the hunt, managing 187/9 in response.

1993 ODI World Cup Final: England beat New Zealand by 67 runs

The runs didn’t come as easy in the 1993 edition at Lord’s, but England still prevailed. Jo Chamberlain was the key difference with her 33-ball 38 and 1/28 off nine overs proving pivotal.

Chamberlain’s innings was quite the effort in a game where Janette Brittin struck 48 off 117 balls and Carole Hodges worked hard for 45 off 119 balls.

With the ball, England limited New Zealand to just 128 off 55.1 overs. Gill Smith was the pick of the bowlers with 3/29 off 12 overs.

2009 T20 World Cup Final: England beat New Zealand by six wickets

Katherine Sciver-Brunt was on a mission in the 2009 T20 World Cup Final at Lord’s. The seam bowler destroyed the New Zealand lineup, taking 3/6 in four overs to win player of the match. Nicky Shaw (2/17) and Jenny Gunn (2/19) took two wickets each as New Zealand were dismissed for just 85.

England were steady in response, reaching the target with three overs and six wickets to spare. Clare Taylor (39* off 32 balls) ensured the hosts got home safely to win what remains their only Women’s T20 World Cup title to date.

2017 ODI World Cup Final: England beat India by nine runs

The Anya Shrubsole game. India were well on track to chase England’s 228, sitting pretty at 191/3 in the 42nd over courtesy of fifties to Punam Raut (85) and Harmanpreet Kaur (51).

Then, Shrubsole took over. She dismissed Raut, and after Alex Hartley bowled Sushma Verma, Shrubsole took four wickets in her next 17 balls and also effected a run out.

Shrubsole’s incredible figures of 6/46 remain the best figures in a Women’s ODI World Cup Final.
