Ryan ten Doeschate, Team India’s assistant coach, is set to quit the job with the national team after the current three-match ODI series against England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly been informed, with personal reasons believed to be the motive behind this decision
The Dutch South African coach was roped into the support staff of the Indian side two years ago when he was appointed along with head coach Gautam Gambhir. The current ODI series is expected to be the last of his tenure with the Indian team now that his contract is over.
Ryan ten Doeschate to resign from India role: Personal reasons cited behind the decision
According to sources, there were no issues with the role or the working environment that influenced the decision. Instead, the primary reason cited for the move has been more time with family. It is understood ten Doeschate wants to be based closer to his family in London and is now looking for a coaching role that involves less travel and a lighter schedule than international cricket.
The decision, therefore, has been perceived as a personal one and not a professional disagreement. His two-year stint with the Indian setup is expected to come to an end once the series is done.
ten Doeschate was added to the coaching group after head coach Gautam Gambhir recommended his appointment. The two had played franchise cricket together before and had shared a strong professional relationship. Gambhir took over reins of the national side. That understanding was later taken into the Indian dressing room.
The two are closely related, but no attempt to prevent the departure is expected. That said, Gambhir understands the personal reasons behind the decision.
Return to KKR Possible?
A come back to KKR would be a natural homecoming for ten Doeschate, who has an extensive and glorious history with the team. He had a few successful years with them before taking up a coaching role that saw them win the IPL 2024 championship.
ten Doeschate’s current contract with the BCCI officially ends after the ongoing white-ball tour of England and a final settlement is expected soon. A reunion in purple and gold is possible as KKR is allegedly eyeing a bigger reorganisational revamp of their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season.
