Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, will host the second ODI after India’s comprehensive victory in the series opener on Tuesday.

England had a batting failure in the first ODI. They lost six wickets for 46 runs at one point before Joe Root (76* runs) and Liam Dawson (68 runs) stitched a 121-run partnership to take them to a defendable total. Ben Duckett (43 runs) got off to a good start, but none of the other batters got going except for Root and Dawson.

England will be determined to do well with the bat in this game. They bat deep, with Adil Rashid coming in at number 10. Bowling-wise, they were good, with Jofra Archer and Sam Curran dismissing both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cheaply. This is a must-win game for the hosts to keep their chances alive of winning the series.

Meanwhile, it was a much-needed win for India after T20I series defeats against Ireland and England. The bowlers did a good job, with Axar Patel (4 wickets), Prasidh Krishna (2 wickets), and Gurnoor Brar (2 wickets) chipping in. Jasprit Bumrah also bowled well (1 wicket, economy 3.4).

Shubman Gill (80 runs) was looking in sublime touch before retiring hurt, while Axar Patel (57* runs) and Washington Sundar (52* runs) saw the side over the line. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli looked rusty, but expect both of them to do well going ahead in the series considering their class and experience. Shreyas Iyer (35 runs) also did well.

India will look to clinch the series by winning this game.

Sophia Gardens Cardiff Pitch Report and Weather

Another good batting wicket is expected in this game. The straight boundaries will be on the shorter side, but there will be big pockets at Cardiff due to the long square boundaries. Batters who can rotate strike will be in for a big score. The average first innings score here in 2025 was 308 runs. Chasing sides have found more success here with a 61.3% win record in the last five years.

A bright sunny day will await both sides. The temperature will be around 25 degrees Celsius at the start of the game. Dew shouldn’t affect the game.

Fantasy Cricket Tips for IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: Who is the best captaincy pick for Dream11?

Top Wicket-Keeper Picks:

  • Jos Buttler was dismissed cheaply in the first game, but he has six fifties in 10 innings at Cardiff. He’s a key batter for England in the middle overs and will be a must in your fantasy teams.

Key batter picks:

  • Virat Kohli has a hundred and a fifty to his name in four ODIs at Cardiff. He’s arguably the best ODI batter in cricket history and will be a top captain choice for this match.
  • Joe Root stood his ground in the first ODI, scoring 76* runs and taking his side to a good total. Root will hold one end and look to bat throughout with the others playing around him. He will be someone you can’t miss out on.
  • Harry Brook failed to convert his form to the ODIs after a stellar T20I series but he’s a very dynamic batter who can change the course of the game on his day. Brook is excellent against both pace and spin, which makes him a top C/VC pick as well.
  • Shreyas Iyer looked in good touch before getting run-out in the first game. He has been India’s best batter since the Ireland tour and will be a top pick; you can try him as C/VC too.
  • Shubman Gill got retired hurt on 80 in the last game, but he’s dominating the ODI format, with an overall average of 60.57. He will be the best C/VC option for this match in fantasy cricket.

Top all-rounder picks:

  • Sam Curran will bat in the middle order and will contribute with the ball as well. He’s a key all-rounder for the home side and will be a must in your fantasy teams.
  • Axar Patel picked up four wickets and then scored 57* runs in the first ODI. He was promoted up the order after two quick wickets and Gill being retired hurt. Axar will fetch points from both the bat and the ball.

Key bowler picks:

  • Jasprit Bumrah has 18 wickets in eight ODIs against England. He looked in seriously good rhythm in the first game. Bumrah is a proven match-winner across any phase of the game.
  • Jofra Archer picked up one wicket and scored 12 runs. He will pose a big threat to the Indian batting in this game. He might get rested to manage his workload, but if he plays, he’ll be a must.

IND vs ENG 2nd ODI Match Prediction: Who will win?

India will be pretty confident after they win the game without contributions from Virat and Rohit. The bowling effort will please the team management and the captain. The batters also did a good job.

England, on the other hand, will have to be on their toes with the bat. They have a good bowling attack and a deep batting line-up. It’s going to be a neck-to-neck contest.

India to win.
