India’s selectors are expected to meet on Monday to finalise the squad for the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka. Ravindra Jadeja is understood to have recovered from injury and is available for selection.
Since injuring his tennis elbow in IPL 2026, Jadeja has not featured in any form of competitive cricket. His last appearance for India was in the ODI series against New Zealand in January. He has finished his rehab and is now expected to be back in the national fold for India’s first away assignment of their new World Test Championship campaign.
Indian Selectors Awaiting Final Fitness Updates For Sri Lanka Tour: Ravindra Jadeja set to return, doubts on others
Jadeja’s return is a big plus but there is uncertainty over the fitness of Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana ahead of the tour.
Harshit is still recovering from the hamstring injury he picked up during the T20I series against England. The fast bowler had only just returned after a few months out with a knee injury that had seen him miss both IPL 2026 and the T20 World Cup.
Also, the speedster is struggling with some weight gain issues, as reported by PTI. His last Test was against Australia in Adelaide in December 2024 and a return for the Sri Lanka series seems unlikely.
Washington’s case is being closely monitored. The all-rounder missed the last ODI against England after sustaining a hamstring injury and was replaced in the squad by Harsh Dubey. The selectors are waiting for a final medical assessment before deciding on his availability.
If Washington is fully fit, he will probably be in the squad. If he is available only for the second Test he could still be added as 16th member of the touring party.
If Washington does not recover in time, Saransh Jain is a strong contender. The off-spinning all rounder was in good form during the India A tour of Sri Lanka where he bagged six wickets in the second four day match in Galle. His case for a maiden Test call up was further enhanced by an unbeaten 70 in the first innings.
The squad will be finalised after checking fitness of Jasprit Bumrah. The fast bowler was ruled out of the final ODI against England after suffering an impact injury to his left knee in the second match in Cardiff. The decision is believed to be a precautionary measure and he is likely to be available for the Sri Lanka series.
