The Pakistan Women’s team is taking an unconventional path to prepare for the upcoming Women’s 2026 Asia Cup. As part of their preparations for the tournament, the team played T20 matches against a men’s side from the Abdul Qadir Cricket Academy at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
The matches were arranged to give the players a tougher test before the competition begins. The Pakistan squad are aiming to make a good start to the tournament which begins in Dubai on August 28.
Pakistan has been drawn in Group A with India, Thailand and Hong Kong. Their most-awaited group match will be against India on September 5.
Fatima Sana: “We needed to understand how to handle the pressure better.”
Speaking to Pakistani media about this unique training regime, Fatima Sana Pakistan’s captain said, “We needed to understand how to handle the pressure better, and that is something that is highlighted whenever there is a big tournament.
“We have played competitive matches against boys in which we were put under pressure. These learnings will help us adapt to the challenges of the competition.
“These matches have helped us on that front, and the difference will be visible. It is crucial to stay calm in pressure situations rather than pressing the panic button. We have told the girls to stay calm in the crunch moments, stay in control, trust their hard work and execute the plans,” she said.
