The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be holding its 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and general office elections at its headquarters in Mumbai on September 18, according to a Cricbuzz report. There are a number of important matters to be discussed in the meeting and one of the key agendas will be to elect two representatives in the IPL Governing Council.
BCCI has released a circular to its member associations mentioning the election process. Associations have been invited to designate their representatives to be included in the electoral roll. The last date for submission of applications for the representatives has been fixed as August 31.
BCCI AGM to consider membership proposal of Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The draft electoral roll will be published on September 1, and the nominations for the elections can be filed on September 9 and 10. The nomination process will be held from 11am to 4pm on both days. The list of candidates for the elections will be announced on 12 September. The elections will then be held on 18 September during the AGM, and the results are also expected to be declared on the same day.
In the meeting, one representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association will be inducted into the IPL Governing Council. The BCCI’s representative or representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC) will also be appointed.
Another important item on the agenda for the AGM will be a proposal to offer associate membership to the Cricket Association of Andaman & Nicobar. The organisation is currently not affiliated with the BCCI and is responsible for the promotion of cricket in the Union Territory.
The BCCI has sent the proposal to its member associations and will take their views before taking a final decision. If the proposal is accepted, it could be the start of a more structured approach to cricket in the islands. But an immediate entry for an Andaman and Nicobar team into BCCI’s domestic competitions looks unlikely.
