Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has denied reports that MS Dhoni approached the franchise for an ownership stake, calling the speculation completely baseless. Reports emerged that Dhoni and the CSK management had discussed a possible ownership deal, but he released a media byte on August 30, 2026 in the wake of these reports to clear the air.
“There have been no formal discussions on the issue,” said Viswanathan. His denial also dismissed the detailed reports that had emerged about the alleged talks between the former CSK skipper and the franchise. “No such proposal has been discussed with Dhoni or the CSK management,” Viswanathan told India Today.
Kasi Viswanathan on MS Dhoni playing IPL 2027 for CSK: “Dhoni hasn’t said he won’t play yet”
Viswanathan also spoke about Dhoni’s future as an IPL player. The franchise has received no communication from Dhoni about not playing IPL 2027. It will be Dhoni himself who will decide his future and CSK is ready to wait for his call.
The CSK CEO also said that the franchise respects Dhoni’s decision and would be happy to have him associated with the side in any capacity. “We haven’t spoken to MS about anything yet”.
His playing future is uncertain but CSK would be happy to have him as a player or coach or mentor depending on what he opts.
“We have not discussed anything with MS as of now. MS takes his decisions on his own, and we respect that. Dhoni hasn’t yet said he won’t play. So let’s wait. We would always like to have him as a permanent fixture at CSK in whatever capacity – be it as a player, coach or mentor, whatever he would like. Any decision depends on him,” he concluded.
Dhoni has been one of the key players with CSK since the inception of IPL and has led the franchise to several titles. IPL 2027 is still some time away and his playing future is still uncertain. But for now, Viswanathan has made it clear that there has been no talk of Dhoni buying a stake in the franchise.
