Following India’s underwhelming white ball performance in the United Kingdom, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to convene a review meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and head of cricket VVS Laxman. A comprehensive roadmap for the 2027 World Cup is also likely to be on the agenda.
The report in Indian Express also said that BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will be the chairman of the meeting, which is scheduled at BCCI HQ in Mumbai. Indian captain Shubman Gill is also likely to be present.
BCCI eyeing workload management as primary agenda item amid poor away form
Managing player workloads ahead of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia is likely to be a major talking point. The board is concerned about players picking up injuries at crucial points in their preparation, especially with a demanding international calendar leading into the IPL.
India will be playing a number of ODI series from September onward. The team will play the West Indies at home before heading to New Zealand for a five-match marathon series. The team has also scheduled ODI matches against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for early next year.
The meeting is also likely to touch upon issues relating to communication between the players, the Center of Excellence and the selection panel. Several players have been injured ahead of crucial assignments and the selection committee wasn’t told about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness status on one of the tours, it is learnt.
Most of the Indian players have undergone fitness tests at the Center of Excellence in the last month. However, the BCCI is keen to have a close coordination on the workload planning, injury monitoring, and the selection decisions.
