Jack Edwards has been added to Australia’s squad for the three-match series against South Africa and is in the frame for an ODI debut. The all-rounder is currently travelling from Puducherry in India to Durban after being part of the Australia A group that is preparing for their four-day match against India A.
Edwards’ inclusion comes after Billy Stanlake was ruled out of the series with a side strain. Stanlake suffered the injury during the second ODI against Zimbabwe after bowling four overs and pulling up midway through his fifth. He will return to Australia for scans to assess the extent of the injury.

Spencer Johnson has also been released from the squad despite playing in two of Australia’s three ODIs against Zimbabwe. The left arm fast bowler has not suffered an injury but will now join Australia A for their three 50-over matches in Puducherry next month.
Johnson had returned to Australia’s ODI side after an 18-month absence and made an impact in the series against Zimbabwe. He took two wickets in Sunday’s match and was also involved in a 27-run partnership for the final wicket during Australia’s close victory.

Australia will have Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc joining the squad in Durban for the South Africa series. Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood and Xavier Bartlett are the other pace bowling options available to the visitors.
Australia’s full squad for the ODI series: Mitchell Marsh (C), Pat Cummins, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Joel Davies, Jack Edwards, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa.
The three ODIs will be played on September 24, September 27 and September 30. Durban will host the opening match, followed by the second ODI in Johannesburg, while Potchefstroom will stage the final game of the series.
