Shubman Gill put on a memorable batting display in Guwahati, blasting a double century in India’s huge run chase of 406 runs. The India captain started quickly and went on to score one of the fastest double centuries in ODI cricket. His knock was also the highest score by a batter in an ODI chase.

Rohit Sharma provided good support, and the duo stitched up a record partnership for India when batting second. Rohit, one of the few batters to have more than one double century in ODIs, played a key role in the record chase, and he too completed his 35th ODI ton before Gill took over.

With very little help for the bowlers, the conditions in Guwahati made strokemaking easier. The quick outfield also helped India keep the scoreboard ticking all through the innings. Gill took full advantage of the conditions and maintained his attacking approach to take India past the 400-run mark with plenty of overs left.

The century was another big milestone in Gill’s ODI career. At the age of 27, he is already one of India’s top batters in the format. His latest double ton has now put his name among the greatest ODI batting knocks in the history of the game.
