Bangladesh left-arm pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman has landed his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) deal. The 31-year-old will play for Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming season.

Mustafizur’s signing is a timely one for the Renegades as Jason Behrendhorff will miss the BBL 2026/27 campaign due to shoulder surgery.

Mustafizur Rahman in the BBL: He’s a proven match-winner says Luke Ronchi

Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi is looking forward to having Mustafizur. The left-armer brings plenty of experience with 271 internationals under his belt plus an ability to bowl in all phases of a T20 innings.

“Mustafizur is a proven match-winner in T20 cricket all over the world,” Ronchi said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.

“His ability to take wickets in both the Powerplay and at the death is exactly what we wanted in our attack.

“BBL audiences love a player who can change a game in a single over and Mustafizur can do just that. Every ball has the potential to produce something special, and our fans are going to love watching him bring the theatre across the summer.”

Mustafizur burst onto the scene in 2015 where he bamboozled Pakistan and India with his variations. He played a key role in leading Bangladesh to landmark ODI series wins against both nations.

Since then, he has played 331 T20s around the world and has taken 423 wickets at a strike rate of 16.9.

“I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades,” Mustafizur said.

“It will be special to play at the MCG as my home ground and I’m excited to join my teammates and bring my experience to the squad.”
