So, are you looking to expand your cricket blogging and writing efforts in 2020? Then you are in the right place!

This article will explore my 10 tips for cricket bloggers and writers to keep in mind for 2020. From writing tips through to social media, this is your one-stop shop for everything blogging and writing related.

A 2020 Guide: 10 Great Tips for Cricket Bloggers | How to Write Cricket Blogs | 10 Great Tips for Cricket Writers and Bloggers | Cricket Blogging Tips

1. Focus on your writing

Writing is the cornerstone of blogging. An engaging use of words brings your audience back for more. It helps increase your audience, too.

The beauty about writing is that you can always improve. It applies to me, as well as most aspiring bloggers out there. From overcoming the fear of a blank page to structuring articles, these key tips are key to keep in mind.

2. Have a vision!

Have a think about where you want to be by the end of 2020. Do you want to write consistently for a site? Or multiple sites? Or even have your own blog?

The possibilities are endless. Speaking from experience, following the great game of cricket and writing about it is so enjoyable and rewarding.

3. It’s not about making quick money

If making ‘quick’ money is your aim, I am here to tell you that it won’t happen.

Content creation takes plenty of effort. From thinking of what to create, creating it and then building your audience, it is easy to see why money should never be the primary objective.

Of course, with the right dedication, you can make some earnings through blogs. Here are some ways to do so.

4. A free blog is a great way to get started. A self-hosted blog is great for more exposure

Before I moved over to my own domain, I used a free blogspot site for nearly a year. It helped me build habits and an audience, of which I could then transfer over to my own site. You can certainly do the same.

If you are looking to get started, a free blog is an easy way to do so. Check out my comparison between free and self-hosted blogs today.

5. Use social media to your advantage!

Social media is fantastic medium for you (bloggers and content creators) to share your passion of cricket and build your profile.

Having a lot of followers is a great goal to have. However, it is how you engage them that is most important. Check out five key ways to build an engaged social media following.

6. Always keep Google in mind

Google traffic is the best traffic to get, as you are providing value to an audience actively searching for content that you are producing.

Keyword research (finding out what people are searching for on topics) and optimising your content is the key. The more organic traffic, the more authority your content or blog has.

Note: Achieving huge organic traffic through a free blog is almost impossible. WordPress and BlueHost are great enablers of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). More here.

7. Be consistent

This is an extension of point three about quick money. If you are in the content space for the right reasons, consistency will be a given as you are in it for the right reasons!

Be sure to produce content as regularly as you can, with a consistent feel and tone to your articles.

8. Be as objective as possible!

It can be very easy to be biased towards your own team/against another team. However, to build credibility among a large audience, I believe it is important to back up your points as rationally as possible.

Cricket is a game full of numbers, statistics and insights. Use them to communicate and back up your point effectively!

9. Be persistent

This is a key tip to keep in mind, particularly if you are in the early stages of your blogging journey.

Your blog isn’t going to drive huge traffic straight away. You need to build it up.

Never give up! For me personally, I would generate barely 50-100 views a week soon after I started blogging regularly in 2017. With time and effort, it has increased nicely. You can do the same.

10. Have some fun!

If you check out my Twitter, you will see memes and jokes. It is my way of having fun and engaging with followers on the platform.

Whatever approach you wish to take, be sure to have fun and enjoy yourself along the way. It is one awesome ride.
