Another passing day in BBL08, another low-scorer. What does this game hold in store for us?
Adelaide Strikers have burst into life after two straight defeats, beating Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades comfortably. Their main man, Rashid Khan, will commit to BBL08, a show of great strength with the loss of his father just before the New Year. The batting has started to click into gear in recent games, and another opportunity awaits against a side in the mix for a top four finish.
Sydney Sixers came close to becoming the first team to beat Hobart Hurricanes in BBL08. A consensus among fans is that the Sixers are punching above their weight so far in this competition, but the talent in their side is evident. Their batting, especially top order efforts, is on the improve after a poor start to the tournament, and their bowlers are asking questions. A game away to the BBL Champions is a tough ask, but it is a great opportunity to lay down a marker. Can the Sixers make a big statement?
Key to an Adelaide Strikers win
Jake Weatherald, Colin Ingram and Alex Carey have hit form in the last two matches, and a combined effort from these three in this one will make life very difficult for the Sixers. Weatherald was especially damaging against the Renegades in Geelong, however, the Strikers will want a better showing in the middle overs, as they struggled for momentum against both the Thunder and Renegades. With Rashid Khan hitting them beautifully at the death, a strong performance in all three stages of the innings can pave the way for the three straight wins for Adelaide.
Also, can the Strikers re-open the top order wounds for the Sydney Sixers? They were utterly dominant against the Renegades, with all six bowlers in the wickets, including very economical spells from Liam O’Connor, Billy Stanlake, Michael Neser and Rashid Khan. If the Strikers can put the squeeze on the Sixers early, backed by a few wickets, it might turn out to be a very challenging evening for the Sixers.

Key to a Sydney Sixers win
Joe Denly continues to disappoint in BBL08. He finished the BBL07 season so strongly, and was the catalyst to the Sixers winning their last four games straight. He needs to step up, along with Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes and Jordan Silk who are all in relatively decent touch. A big top order effort can set a crucial platform for the likes of Tom Curran and Sean Abbott to go big in the death overs.
Also, can the Sydney Sixers get the better of the Strikers’ top order? Tom Curran has been brilliant in this tournament, and support is needed from the likes of Steve O’Keefe, Sean Abbott and Ben Manenti. A good start in the powerplay can put pressure on an Adelaide side that has lacked some momentum in the middle overs in recent games, which puts the Sixers right in the match. The aim for the Sixers, like the Hurricanes game, will be to take the game as deep as possible to try and land a confidence-boosting win.
