Afghanistan cricketer Najeeb Tarakai passed away on October 6. The top-order batsman was involved in a fatal accident and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition wherein he went under surgery. The Afghanistan Cricket Board tweeted about the incident saying that Tarakai was hit by a passing car when he was crossing the road after coming out of a grocery market at Eastern Nangarhar.

“ACB and Afghanistan Cricket Loving Nation mourns the heart breaking and grievous loss of its aggressive opening batsman & a very fine human being Najeeb Tarakai (29) who lost his life to a tragic traffic accident leaving us all shocked,” ACB tweeted.

Many cricketers poured their condolences on Twitter while others where in complete shock.

Tarakai had played one T20 international and 12 ODIs for Afghanistan as an opener. His best T20 was against Ireland, where he had scored 90 in 2017. “After being the top scorer for Speen Ghar Tigers in the Shpageeza Cricket League last year, he was part of the Mis Ainak Knights squad in their run to the finals last month”, said ICC statement.
