Usually when England are in Australia, anyone who even tries to obstruct the field would surely lead to mayhem. It was quite the opposite in Perth on Sunday, with Jos Buttler realising there is bigger fish to fry in the weeks ahead.

While the public widely questioned why there was no appeal, Buttler stood firm on his belief that a long tour, comprising of an upcoming T20 World Cup, requires focus on the task at hand. It was certainly the case for Buttler himself and Alex Hales as they were in fine touch on Sunday, but they will know they will come up against a more experienced Aussie attack this time around.

For Australia, their eight-run loss was not without positives. David Warner’s form is superb, as was Marcus Stoinis’ onslaught in the middle overs. One feels the missing piece of the puzzle remains Glenn Maxwell’s form, and if he fires here, Australia’s confidence can only grow.
