AUS vs WI 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | AUS vs WI 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | Carrara Pitch Report

Both Australia and West Indies will look at this two-match T20I series with great focus, as both have their challenges to overcome ahead of the World Cup.

The home side have some injury concerns that have hung around since the Zimbabwe and New Zealand series earlier this season, with the make up of their bowling attack a key talking point. For West Indies, the Shimron Hetmyer saga, where he missed his rescheduled flight, threatens to completely derail their stay in Australia. Also, a number of players who featured in the CPL 2022 Final over the weekend have barely had a day in Australia before this match, so coping after a long journey will be a challenge.

In saying that, it is a good opportunity for West Indies to test themselves against the World Cup favourites. Australia, even in their series defeat to India, looked quite strong in stages, with the emergence of Cameron Green sure to create some selection headaches when everyone is fit. Also, Australia will be aiming for a solid bowling display in the death overs against a team with a lot of T20 cricket under their belt in recent weeks.

AUS vs WI 1st T20 Possible Playing XI

Marcus Stoinis is out of the West Indies series due to his side strain. Mitchell Marsh will only play as a batsman. So, Australia will need another bowling option, which could open the door for Cameron Green in the middle order and Steve Smith to miss out.

Australia: 1. David Warner, 2. Aaron Finch (c), 3. Mitchell Marsh, 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Cameron Green, 6. Tim David, 7. Matthew Wade (wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Josh Hazlewood

According to Nicholas Pooran, West Indies will make a call on some of their players depending how they pull up from the travels. Shamarh Brooks, who was picked to replace Hetmyer, won’t arrive in Australia in time for this series.

West Indies: 1. Brandon King, 2. Evin Lewis, 3. Johnson Charles/Kyle Mayers, 4. Nicholas Pooran (c & wk), 5. Rovman Powell, 6. Jason Holder, 7. Odean Smith, 8. Akeal Hosein, 9. Obed McCoy, 10. Alzarri Joseph, 11. Sheldon Cottrell

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Australia:

  • David Warner is back. In ten matches against West Indies, Warner has hammered 400 runs at an average of 44.44 and strike rate of 153.25.
  • Mitchell Marsh also has strong numbers vs West Indies, dating back to last year. The number three has hit four half-centuries in six matches against the men in maroon, with 272 runs at an average of 45.33 and strike rate of 154.54.
  • Glenn Maxwell is in need of runs. He returns to a ground he has a great record at: 6 inns, 276 runs, avg. 69.00, SR 166.27.
  • Cameron Green recently took eight wickets in three ODIs vs Zimbabwe, scored 89* vs New Zealand, then hit 118 runs at a strike rate of 214.54 vs India. If picked in the middle order, it will be interesting to see how he fares.
  • Josh Hazlewood has taken 71 wickets in 45 T20 innings since the start of 2021. He is averaging 17.84 with an economy of 7.49.
  • Mitchell Starc will be aiming to improve on his record vs West Indies: 8 inns, 8 wickets, avg. 36.37, econ. 9.09.

West Indies:

  • Brandon King is coming off a successful CPL 2022 campaign, where he struck 422 runs (most of any player) at an average of 38.36 and 135.25. This included a superb 83* off 50 balls in the Final.
  • Evin Lewis vs Australia: 4 inns, 139 runs, avg. 34.75, SR 182.89. He has scored 20 off 11 balls against Hazlewood (one dismissal).
  • The spotlight is on Nicholas Pooran after a poor CPL campaign, where he scored just 108 runs at an average of 12.00 and strike rate of 117.39. However, he is faring better in T20 Internationals this year, with 553 runs in 17 innings at an average of 36.86 and strike rate of 135.20.
  • Jason Holder’s experience will be key for West Indies. He took the second-most wickets in CPL 2022, with 17 scalps at an economy of 6.86. He also struck 155 runs and was dismissed just three times in nine knocks.
  • Alzarri Joseph had a CPL to remember. He took the most wickets (18) at an average of 15.00 and strike rate of 13.3. His hit-the-deck style bowling can work nicely in Australia.
