It’s a repeat of the previous year’s final and arguably the biggest clash of the league stage in BBL 10 as the Melbourne Stars lock horns with the Sydney Sixers at the Carrara Oval. The teams are packed with batting heavyweights and there can be the best power hitting on display in a marquee clash on Boxing Day evening.
Both the teams are on a roll and their position in the top-half of the table justifies the fact. The Stars are the only unbeaten side of the tournament and rain helped their cause in the previous game against Perth Scorchers, after they won their opening two games. While the Sixers stamped their authority as one of the strongest sides in the competition with two comfortable victories in the last 2 games.
In the previous game, a stable 46 from stand-in skipper Hughes alongwith Christian’s whirlwind half-century meant that Sixers posted a total of 177 on the board after just scoring 19 runs in the first four overs in which they lost both the openers. Also, they were 58/3 in the 12th over, before an excellent last eight overs changed the game.
O’Keefe, Braithwaite and Manenti chipped in with a couple of wickets each as they restricted the Strikers 139 and won their 2nd consecutive game.
The Stars won the first 2 games against Brisbane Heat and the green side of Sydney. Against the Scorchers, the match was interrupted post the first innings due to rain.
