BBL 2021-22 Match 14: HEA vs THU Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | HEA vs THU Dream11 Prediction | Heat vs Thunder Key Players | Gabba Pitch Report

After a few days off owing to the Adelaide Day/Night Test, the BBL returns with an important game for two sides looking to build some momentum.

Sydney Thunder, after beating Brisbane Heat earlier this season, have since lost two matches against the Melbourne Stars. The Heat, who themselves lost their first two matches, swept aside the Melbourne Renegades with ease to get their season going. Both teams currently sit outside the top five, and even though it is still early in the season, there is an element of importance in this clash.

The Gabba will host its first BBL match this season after Australia’s victory over England in the first Ashes Test. The Heat have won four out of five completed matches against the Thunder on this ground, and will be seeking some revenge after losing to the Sydney-based team by seven wickets two weeks ago.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Brisbane Heat:

  • Chris Lynn missed out against the Thunder earlier this season (9), but he has the potential to deliver in this match. He has scored the most runs in Thunder-Heat matches, with 585 runs in 15 matches at an average of 48.75 and strike rate of 171.55.
  • Lynn also has the most T20 runs at the Gabba. He has scored 1,129 runs in 37 matches at an average of 35.28 and strike rate of 166.27.
  • Ben Duckett batted nicely against the Thunder two weeks ago. He struck 46 off 35 balls. He has scored 1 and 11 since, so the Heat will be hoping he can deliver the goods today.
  • Sam Heazlett has struck scores of 42 (37), 34 (17) and 44* (29) so far this season. He has a good record against the Thunder, with 149 runs in five innings at an average of 49.67 and strike rate of 133.04.
  • James Bazley has impressed so far this season. He took 3/28 and struck 16* in his last game against the Renegades.
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman has taken 15 wickets in 12 matches at the Gabba at an economy rate of just 6.15.
  • Xavier Bartlett (26* and 1/20) played well against the Thunder two weeks ago. He has taken seven wickets in six T20s at the Gabba (avg. 20), and will be key against the Thunder top order and at the death

Sydney Thunder:

  • Will Alex Hales deliver? He has made a slow start to the season, including a duck against the Heat. He was the top run-scorer in last season’s BBL (543), so he is capable of delivering at any moment.
  • Hales has a poor overall record vs Heat (6 inns, 81 runs, avg. 16.20), so it will be interesting to see how he fares here.
  • Alex Ross, on the other hand, is in outstanding form. The right-hander has struck two half-centuries in three games in BBL 11, including 61* off 46 vs Heat earlier this season.
  • Sam Billings batted nicely against the Heat two weeks ago, striking an unbeaten 44* off 36 balls. He has scored 100 runs against the Heat at an average of 50.00 and strike rate of 131.58.
  • Daniel Sams has enjoyed great success vs the Heat with both bat and ball. He has smashed 131 runs in six innings at an average of 26.20 and strike rate of 211.29. He also has the most wickets in Heat-Thunder matches with 11 scalps in eight matches, including 3/22 earlier this season.
  • Gurinder Sandhu is conceding just 6.80 runs per over so far this season. He bowled an excellent spell of 2/17 vs Heat earlier this year.
  • Saqib Mahmood is set to make his BBL debut. The Englishman has had a superb year in short-form cricket, taking 29 wickets in 19 matches. Also, he was player of the series in England’s terrific ODI series win against Pakistan earlier this year with nine wickets.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 15, Heat 10, Thunder 4, N/R 1.
  • Thunder (141/3) beat the Heat (140/8) comfortably in Canberra two weeks ago.
  • Jimmy Peirson has a good record against the Thunder: 10 innings, 179 runs, avg. 35.80, SR 126.95.

Gabba Pitch Report and Weather

It wasn’t particularly high scoring at the Gabba in last season’s BBL, with the average first innings score just 152.33 in six matches. But, the Gabba is almost always a good batting surface, with some bounce available too.

A mostly sunny day is forecast in Brisbane with a top of about 30 degrees.

Match Prediction

This is an interesting match and a difficult one to predict. The Heat at home start as favourites, but the team batting first will feel more confident with 170+ on the board.
