BBL 2021/22 Match 2: THU vs HEA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | THU vs HEA Dream11 Prediction Today | Thunder vs Heat Key Players | Manuka Oval Pitch Report

Two of the tournament’s promising squads go head-to-head early in the campaign in what has the potential to be a cracker. Unlike last night’s record-breaking margin, this one has the makings for a close match.

Sydney Thunder have a promising squad once again, highlighted by a strong English core and talented domestic group. The likes of Saqib Mahmood are still to join the squad, and they possess a middle order that is very much capable of building on whatever the excellent Alex Hales produces.

The Thunder will be aiming to right the wrongs of a terrible bowling display in last season’s Eliminator against Brisbane Heat. The Heat, however, will be out for more of the same. Like the Thunder, they possess a talented squad, with Ben Duckett a new addition to a batting lineup that has the potential to make big scores consistently. The reliable Jimmy Peirson, who had an excellent BBL last season, will lead a team that will be aiming to build on a Semi Final appearance in BBL 10.

So, who will make the perfect start in this intriguing match?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sydney Thunder:

  • Alex Hales. It’s as simple as that. He was the top run-scorer in BBL 10 with 543 at an average of 38.78 and strike rate of 161.60. Also, he strikes at 147.67 in 10 matches at Manuka Oval (285 runs, avg. 31.67).
  • However, Hales will be keen to improve on his performances vs Heat. He scored 0 (1), 46 (26) and 8 (9) against them last season.
  • Sam Whiteman could prove to be an excellent addition to the Thunder squad. He is in some great form, with 176 in a recent Shield match and 79 in his last one day game for Western Australia.
  • Sam Billings will be key in the middle for the Thunder. The England batsman made scores of 22 (16) and 34 (24) vs Heat last season, and was looking good in both matches.
  • Daniel Sams’ potential with the ball is clear. He was the leading wicket-taker in the BBL two seasons ago with 30 scalps. He has eight wickets in five matches vs Heat but will be looking to bring his economy rate of 10.43 down.
  • Also, Sams had great success batting against the Heat last season. He smashed 65* (25) against them on this ground and 37 (18) in the other meeting in the regular season.
  • Ben Cutting comes up against his former team once again after some tension between he and the Heat last season. He made a start in each of the three games vs Heat in BBL 10: 29 (23), 24 (15) and 34* (18).
  • Tanveer Sangha has taken 12 wickets in eight matches at Manuka Oval at an average of 17.75 and economy rate of 7.26.
  • Skipper Chris Green has eight wickets in nine matches vs Heat at an average of 24.63 and economy rate of 7.30. He also has 12 wickets in 11 matches on this ground. He will be key in the powerplay overs against Heat’s big hitters.

Brisbane Heat:

  • Chris Lynn has an outstanding career record vs Thunder. In 14 matches, Lynn has smashed 576 runs at an average of 52.36 and strike rate of 172.46. He scored 69 (44) vs Thunder on this ground last season.
  • Lynn at Manuka Oval: 171 runs in five matches at an average of 34.20 and strike rate of 132.56.
  • The impressive Sam Heazlett is one to watch out for this season. The talented left-hander smashed 74* off 49 in last season’s Eliminator vs Thunder, played on this ground.
  • Jimmy Peirson smashed 43* (24) in that same game. The new Heat captain has scored 176 runs vs Thunder at an average of 44.00 and strike rate of 129.41.
  • Ben Duckett could be an excellent addition to the Heat squad this season. He has smashed 615 runs in 21 short-form matches this year at an average of 32.27 and strike rate of 149.64.
  • Jack Wildermuth has a fine record vs Thunder. The right-arm seamer has taken six wickets in three matches at an average of 15.17 and economy rate of 7.58.
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman’s battle against the Thunder top order should make for fascinating viewing. The classy off-spinner has taken four wickets in as many matches against the Thunder. Plus, he is conceding just 6.74 runs per over in 25 short-form matches this year (34 wickets).

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, Thunder 3, Heat 10, N/R 1.
  • Heat have won the last two matches against Thunder, including last season’s Eliminator played at Manuka Oval.
  • Max Bryant averages 20 vs Thunder and 24 at Manuka Oval. If he gets a start today, he is capable of going big.
  • Gurinder Sandhu recently took a hat-trick in the Marsh Cup. If picked, he will be key in the death overs for the Thunder.

Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report and Weather

Expect a true and easy paced surface at Manuka Oval, especially in the early part of the season. The average first innings score in 13 matches on this ground last season was 170.85, with the chasing team winning nine of those matches. Expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to bowl first.

A cloudy day is forecast for Canberra, but rain should be minimal. It will be a relatively mild evening.
