Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview Dream11

A thrilling match in the race for the top four? Not quite.

Tonight, we will witness a battle for the wooden spoon. However, with both sides possessing ability not fulfilled consistently enough, one can hope for a thrilling game where caution is thrown into the wind in a BBL08 tournament that needs it.

The concerns regarding Brisbane Heat’s team balance before the season began have come to fruition. It has been another disappointing campaign, which has coach Daniel Vettori reportedly under pressure to keep his job. Like their opponents, all they have to play for is avoiding the wooden spoon as finals is now out of reach – will the Heat have the motivation to deliver the goods at home?

Perth Scorchers have undoubtedly been BBL08’s most disappointing side. Had someone said that the pre-tournament favourites would be fighting it out for the wooden spoon just three games out from the finals, you might have asked them if they had been drinking heavily. Their campaign was summed up by their dismal 79 all-out in their previous outing, and have to show more fight today to avoid the wooden spoon. Will they move off the bottom of the table?

Key to a Brisbane Heat win

It is no coincidence that when Chris Lynn has struggled, so have Brisbane Heat. Lynn has scored just 16 runs in his last four innings, and in this time, Brisbane Heat got lucky with the Gabba floodlights and lost the other three matches. In the last game against Hobart Hurricanes, the Heat’s middle order gave them some respectability, but the damage was well and truly done. Here, Chris Lynn must fire, along with Brendon McCullum and Max Bryant, to give the Heat’s middle order some platform to play off.

Also, can the Heat bowlers get the better of an up and down Scorchers batting lineup? The likes of Josh Lalor and Brendan Doggett have had their moments in recent matches, but the Heat just haven’t been able to sustain the pressure for long enough. To do that, Lalor and Doggett will be key, along with Mujeeb ur Rahman and Ben Cutting who can deliver more than they have this season. Can the Heat pick up early wickets to reopen the Scorchers’ wounds from Monday?

Key to a Perth Scorchers win

It was indeed the batting performance from hell from the Scorchers on Monday. They were four down by the end of the powerplay, which was lights out, and now puts the onus on the likes of the Marsh brothers and Ashton Turner to deliver. With the Heat having their own bowling troubles this season, the Scorchers have an opportunity to get runs on the board, but like the Heat, their middle order has to come in with a platform set.

However, a seed of hope for the Scorchers is the effort of their bowling attack. They have not always delivered the goods, especially at the death, but tonight they have an opportunity to cause more pain for the Heat in the powerplay overs. If the likes of Jason Behrendhorff can dismiss at least two of Heat’s top three early, the Scorchers could very well be playing from in front, with AJ Tye a key man in the middle and death overs. Can the bowlers put together a fine display that reduces the pressure somewhat on their batsmen?

Possible Playing 11

Sam Heazlett comes into the Heat squad in place of Mitch Swepson.

There are a couple of changes for Perth Scorchers. Left-arm seamer Liam Guthrie comes into the squad for Nathan Coulter-Nile, who is out with hamstring soreness. Anything is possible as last night’s incredible result showed.

It’s even more the case with both sides struggling and unable to make the playoffs. I will predict a Perth Scorchers win off the back of a strong powerplay effort with the ball that sets up victory.
