Cricket News: Best responses to Mohammad Kaif “best team on paper” tweets | Mohammad Kaif creates stir with his view on the ODI World Cup Final

Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif created quite the stir on social media following India’s defeat in the World Cup Final against Australia. Speaking to Star Sports, Kaif said “I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best on paper.”

The comments resulted in a widespread response, including from David Warner. The Australia opener, who had a strong World Cup campaign with 535 runs, tweeted, “I like MK [Mohammad Kaif], issue is it does not matter what is on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come.”

The tweet has received 4.7 million impressions.

Kaif then took to Twitter to double down on his view. “Facts: It was Australia’s day in final, they won, they are World Cup winners. More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament’s best team. Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia.”

Kaif’s tweet, which has been viewed nearly 4 million times as of November 24, has also resulted in widespread response. “On paper, strength is just a promise; on the field, it’s the grit in key moments that clinches victories,” tweeted Talk Before Wicket. Others took a more humorous approach, with The Skin Doctor tweeting “It’s high time for Kaif bhai to become the ICC president and introduce the ‘best team on paper award’ from next Cricket World Cup onwards.”

Here are some other responses following Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup title.

India and Australia are currently doing battle once again, this time in the T20I format. India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series thanks to big efforts from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh among others.
