Australia Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has said he won’t stop Cameron Green from registering his name for the IPL 2023 Auction. While Australia would love to have Green fit and firing for their huge 2023, Cummins said that playing in the IPL is a terrific opportunity.
Speaking to SEN Radio, Cummins said, “Yeah potentially (Green will enter his name in the IPL auction). We’ll wait and see, I think the auction is a little while away.”
“Selfishly as a captain, I’d love for him to save all of his energy for Australia. But how can you tell someone to say no to that kind of opportunity?”
Cameron Green expected to land a big deal in IPL 2023 Auction
The all-rounder, who impressed in Australia’s tour of India just before the T20 World Cup, is widely tipped to land a big deal should he put his name forward in the auction. Green was a revelation at the top of the order, smashing 118 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 214.54. Also, his bowling ability will make him very difficult for most franchises to ignore.
Australia’s massive 2023 schedule
Cummins withdrew from IPL 2023 citing Australia’s huge schedule. After the home season, Australia will travel to India for four Tests, followed by five Ashes Tests in June-July. Then, there is the ODI World Cup in India next year.
Green is a key player for Australia in both formats. Cricket Australia may fear for the all-rounder’s workload if he does end up playing in the IPL. However, skipper Cummins was clear that it is not fair to say no to that sort of opportunity.
