Cricket News: England achieve unique ODI record in 2023 World Cup opener | What record did England achieve against NZ?
Since 2015, England have been record-setters in ODI cricket. They have the top three totals in history, and often plunder 300+ totals with ease.
However, they achieved a new and unique first in the 2023 World Cup opener against New Zealand. All 11 batsmen reached double figures, which was the first instance that all batters registered a double-digit score in the 50-year history of ODI cricket.
That they finished with 282/9 was testament to Tom Latham and the New Zealand attack, who kept the strong English batting lineup in check with regular wickets. In fact, Joe Root (77) was the only player to cross 50. But, the 30-run partnership for the final wicket between Adil Rashid and Mark Wood further highlights England’s strength in batting deep in ODIs.

Australia came close to achieving the feat in an ODI against India in March 2023, where ten players made double-digit scores. Remarkably, the only player who stopped the feat being achieved was the great Steve Smith, who made a rare duck.
