Cricket News: GT vs RR Twitter Reactions: Samson, Hetmyer masterclass seals Royals thriller | GT vs RR Twitter reactions IPL 2023
Rajasthan Royals (RR) stunned the Gujarat Titans (GT) in an incredible run chase at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday evening. RR skipper Sanju Samson and Caribbean superstar Shimron Hetmyer combined to score 60 and 56 at strike rates of 187.50 and 215.38 respectively to take the visitors over the finishing line after RR were down at 55/4 in the 11th over.
Samson particularly eased the pressure by fearlessly taking down Rashid Khan for a hat-trick of sixes. Youngster Dhruv Jurel played an impactful cameo scoring 18 off 10 deliveries as well. Ravichandran Ashwin hit a boundary and a six off his first two deliveries before being dismissed by Mohammed Shami in the 19th over.
However, RR had already more or less sealed the game by then with Hetmyer completing the final formalities by dispatching Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed for a maximum in the second delivery of the last over.
Earlier, Gujarat put up 177 on the board with David Miller top scoring with 46 to support opener Shubman Gill’s effort of 45 runs. RR pacer Sandeep Sharma delivered another impressive performance, scalping two dismissals whilst conceding 25 runs in his four-over spell.

“When you play quality opponents on a quality wicket, you get such games. Very happy to compete in such a game and come out on top. It was important to rotate our bowlers, they were playing some quality cricket and we had to respect that. The whole team came up well today and we could restrict them to around 170. The start we had, it shows how good a wicket this was,” Samson reflected on the proceedings in the aftermath of the game.
“I felt short. After I got out, they bowled a couple of good overs, but we should have gone a little harder and got to 200. We did cover it well but when I was watching from outside, I did feel that we were 10 runs maybe short,” GT captain Hardik Pandya mentioned as he believed that GT fell short of a defendable total eventually.
