Cricket News: Hearing rumours that Jofra Archer is on his way back home – Simon Doull | Simon Doull mentions Jofra Archer on Cricbuzz
Former New Zealand pacer and current commentator Simon Doull mentioned on Cricbuzz Live that Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jofra Archer might be heading back to England as he continues to nurse the injury that has kept him out of Indian Premier League (IPL) action since April 1.
“I am hearing rumours that Jofra is on his way back home,” Doull said as he along with Harsha Bhogle and host Saiyami Kher previewed the MI vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) game that will be held in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday.
Archer played Mumbai’s first match of the season against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium at the start of the month. He didn’t look to be going full throttle as he conceded 33 runs in his four overs and didn’t scalp a wicket eventually. He has missed every MI game since then with head coach Mark Boucher saying that the bowler has picked up a niggle.
However, rumours surfacing from Doull’s statement suggest that Archer’s time in this IPL season might be over already. There has been no official statement regarding the same from the franchise but Archer’s continued absence does spark some speculation about his prevalent injury situation.
“He’s picked up a little niggle. We’ve got a fantastic medical team that are looking after him. He’s obviously a massive player for us, so hopefully they can pass him fit sometime soon,” Boucher touched upon Archer’s injury situation earlier this month.
“We will always look after the player, so if he’s not ready to put his hand up to play then we’ll look after him as well, but we’re following medical advice from our team at the moment. Hopefully he’s up for selection pretty soon,” he had added.
