Cricket News: Ind v Aus: Reactions on the Indore pitch | Twitter reactions to the Indore pitch for the third Test of BGT 2023

Fourteen wickets fell on the first day of the third Test between India and Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Wednesday. The home side was bowled out for 109 as Matthew Kuhnemann scalped five dismissals and spun a web around the Indian team.

Rohit Sharma called it right at the toss and opted to bat first in a move that backfired on a really tricky surface. The pitch came under the scanner on social media for the assistance it provided to spin bowlers right from the opening day of the Test onwards. Here are some reactions on Twitter to the pitch in Indore.

The Indian team really struggled to get going from the offset as Australia turned to their spin options pretty early on – dismissing Rohit Sharma for 12 through a stump out in the sixth over itself. Batsmen barring Virat Kohli failed to resist this onslaught though even the ex-skipper couldn’t convert his decent start (22 off 52 deliveries) into a substantial total going ahead.

The Australian batsmen responded to the challenge pretty well, with opener Usman Khawaja taking 147 deliveries for his fine knock of 60 runs.

Indian pacers Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj bowled only five overs combined out of the 54 that India sent down on Wednesday. Ravindra Jadeja notched all four Australian wickets that fell on the opening day – thus reaping rewards for his relentlessness and consistency with the red cherry.

Surprisingly though, the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel could not bag any wickets in their combined 25 overs. Australia have secured a lead of 47 runs with Peter Handscomb (7*) and Cameron Green (6*) to start proceedings in the second day of the Test match.
