The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India revealed that the first ten matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season attracted over 30 crore viewers on Star Sports, the official TV broadcaster for the tournament.
Star Sports recorded 6,230 crore minutes of watch time for the initial ten games of the campaign. Accordingly, the channel garnered around 23 per cent more viewers than IPL 2022. The average watch time of the live broadcast has also shot up by 25 per cent in comparison to the previous campaign of the IPL.
Further, the BARC data says that the same ten games attained a peak concurrency of 5.6 crores on TV at a time when the number stood at 1.8 crores on digital.
“Additionally, Tata IPL on Star Sports delivered 14 crore viewers on opening day with a peak concurrency of 5.6 crores and an engagement of 76 minutes. Star Sports is optimistic that its efforts will continue to keep fans glued to their TV screens and create an unforgettable viewing experience that celebrates the spirit of IPL 2023,” the official statement from Disney Star read.
The TVR rating for IPL 2023 has also increased by 25 per cent from last year to 5.1 this season. The TV ratings enhanced by 31 per cent whereas the overall reach increased by 20 per cent for the broadcaster for the opening game of the season between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 30.

At the same time, the official digital rights holder JioCinema revealed that they had around six crore unique users tuning into the CSK v GT game. Also, their total match views had surpassed the 50 crore mark that day.
With this edition of the IPL producing incredible last-ball finishes, expect eyeballs to continue to be stuck firmly on the action as the race to the playoffs heats up in the next few weeks.
