Cricket News: List of players released by franchises ahead of IPL 2023 Auction | Which players have been released?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) fever is certainly heating up now with the auction scheduled to take place next month. 15th November, 2022 was the last day for franchises to confirm their list of retained and released players for the upcoming season of the competition.
There were quite a few surprises in store and let us have a look at all the players that each team has parted ways with ahead of the coming edition of the mega tournament.
IPL 2023 Mini-Auction: List of players released
Gujarat Titans
Released: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Lockie Ferguson, Dominic Drakes, Gurkeerat Singh, Jason Roy, Varun Aaron
Gujarat Titans made some high-profile trades by transferring the duo of Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They also freed up some purse by letting the domestic duo of Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Varun Aaron leave the franchise. Jason Roy, who was initially tipped to be their first-choice opener last year, has been released as well.
That is an unsurprising move given that Roy pulled out of the tournament in 2022 and was dropped from England’s T20 World Cup squad due to a poor run of form. All-rounder Dominic Drakes won’t be a part of the defending champions heading into the auctions as well.
Rajasthan Royals
Released: Anunay Singh, Corbin Bosch, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Karun Nair, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rassie van der Dussen, Shubham Garhwal, Tejas Baroka
Previous year’s runners-up Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) high-profile releases include the Kiwi duo of James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell along with South African star Rassie van der Dussen. Rookie Corbyn Bosch has been let go as well along with Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile. Karun Nair, Arunoy Singh and Tejas Baroka won’t be a part of the squad as they go to the auction table next month as well.
Lucknow Super Giants
Released: Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Andrew Tye, Ankit Rajpoot, Dushmantha Chameera, Manish Pandey, Shahbaz Nadeem
The KL Rahul-led side has made some prominent calls with respect to their retention and releases. LSG have released Jason Holder and Evin Lewis, irrespective of the fact that the two Caribbean stars has featured extensively for them last year. Manish Pandey has been let go of after a poor campaign whereas Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera who had quite a few impressive outings in 2022 will be back in the auction again. Ankit Rajpoot and Shahbaz Nadeem, who played relatively minimal roles last year, have been released from the squad too.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Released: Jason Behrendorff, Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, Luvnith Sisodia, Sherfane Rutherford
There is not much to note from the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) releases this year. They traded Jason Behrendoff to Mumbai Indians (MI) and have parted ways with Sherfane Rutherford too. However, neither Rutherford nor any of the other Indian names such as Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind and Luvnith Sisodia actually featured regularly in the playing XI for them in IPL 2022.
Delhi Capitals
Released: Shardul Thakur, Tim Seifert, Ashwin Hebbar, Srikar Bharat, Mandeep Singh
Delhi Capitals have created a lot of space in their auction purse by trading Shardul Thakur to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They had acquired Thakur for Rs 10.75 crore in the auction and now have the bandwidth to utilize that money to fulfill their other requirements. The other releases include the likes of Mandeep Singh, Srikar Bharat, Ashwin Hebbar and also Tim Seifert who had actually done pretty well at the top of the order in a couple of games for them earlier in the previous campaign.
Punjab Kings
Released: Mayank Agarwal, Odean Smith, Vaibhav Arora, Benny Howell, Ishan Porel, Ansh Patel, Prerak Mankad, Sandeep Sharma, Writtick Chatterjee
Punjab Kings head into the auction eyeing yet another rebuild with a purse over Rs 42 crore. They have let go of Mayank Agarwal who led them last year and also all-rounder Odean Smith. Vaibhav Arora, an impressive young pacer from Himachal Pradesh was also released.
Other released fast-bowlers include Ishan Porel, Sandeep Sharma and also Benny Howell. The new management is definitely aiming at reinvigorating their setup under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan this time around.
Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR endured a turbulent campaign last year and they are looking to make amends to that by completely shaking up their domestic contingent for starters. Ajinkya Rahane and Sheldon Jackson have been released whereas the likes of Pat Cummins and Alex Hales have opted out of the coming season altogether.
Aaron Finch has been let go of as well along with Shivam Mavi, upon whom KKR had spent a massive Rs 7.25 crore. They have traded Aman Khan to DC and also bid goodbye to the duo of Mohammed Nabi and Chamika Karunaratne. Overall, the team has quite a lot of work to do in the auction table.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Released: Kane Williamson, Nicholas Pooran, J Suchith, Priyam Garg, R Samarth, Romario Shepherd, Saurabh Dubey, Sean Abbott, Shashank Singh, Shreyas Gopal, Sushant Mishra, Vishnu Vinod
SRH made heads turn by releasing skipper Kane Williamson and their star acquisitions from last year like Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd. The team certainly needs a new captain and quite a few batsmen to fill the gaping holes in their lineup. The likes of Shreyas Gopal and Jagdeesha Suchith have been let go, making room for some utility Indian players in their squad. Overall, the SRH management has quite some work to look forward to after a thoroughly disappointing season last time around.
Chennai Super Kings
Released: Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa, Adam Milne, C Hari Nishaanth, Chris Jordan, Bhagath Varma, KM Asif, N Jagadeesan
The four-time IPL champions have ended their long association with all-rounder Dwayne Bravo this time around. Robin Uthappa’s retirement rules him out of contention as well. Meanwhile, the team will be looking for new overseas pacers after letting go of Adam Milne and Chris Jordan. Domestic players like Narayan Jagadeesan, C Hari Nishaanth, Bhagath Varma and KM Asif have been released from the squad too. CSK have the capacity to make at least one high-profile acquisition and that could well be their former player Sam Curran.
Mumbai Indians
Released: Kieron Pollard, Tymal Mills, Anmolpreet Singh, Aryan Juyal, Basil Thampi, Daniel Sams, Fabian Allen, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, Murugan Ashwin, Rahul Buddhi, Riley Meredith, Sanjay Yadav
Mumbai Indians have broken ties with quite a few squad members from last year, including the likes of Basil Thampi, Anmolpreet Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Murugan Ashwin amongst others. However, the biggest news is that of Kieron Pollard retiring from the IPL and instead becoming the batting coach of the franchise.
Tymal Mills has been let go of as well whereas the likes of Fabian Allen and Riley Meredith might find themselves in the auction pool again. Like a few other franchises, MI too have some rebuilding work to do in the coming month.
