Swashbuckling star Suryakumar Yadav powered the Mumbai Indians (MI) to an emphatic victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. Chasing 200, the home team got to the target in only 16.3 overs as Surya slammed 83 runs off 35 deliveries whilst batting at number three. The batsman, who came into the IPL on the back of three consecutive ducks in the ODI series against Australia, seems to have finally gotten in his groove.
He has played a vital role in some of the terrific chases that MI pulled off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) recently. He has been timing the ball really well and is again able to execute his trademark acrobatic shots that make him such a force to reckon with in white-ball cricket.

Ishan Kishan and Nehal Wadhera played an able hand in supporting Surya in their incredible chase. Ishan hit four sixes and four boundaries to get to 42 off 21 deliveries as he helped MI maximise the powerplay and set up a great foundation for the likes of Surya and Wadhera to build their innings on. Wadhera had made a fine half-century against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and he was promoted to bat at number four in this match.
The southpaw made full use of this opportunity, scoring 52 off 34 with four boundaries and three sixes to his name. MI have now skyrocketed to the third spot in the points table – behind only the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They will hope to carry on this form to the business end of the tournament as the race for the playoffs berths heats up in the coming week.
