Cricket News: Mitchell Starc to put name in IPL 2024 Auction | Mitchell Starc intends to return to the IPL
Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc is set to make his long-awaited return to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking to the Willow Talk podcast, Starc confirmed he will put his name forward for the IPL 2024 Auction, ending a near decade-long absence from the tournament.
“Look it’s been eight years. I’m definitely going back in [next] year,” he said. “Amongst other things, it’s a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup.

Since 2015, Starc has opted out of the IPL to focus on national duties. Because Australia have a relatively quiet middle period of the year in 2024, the left-armer sees an opportunity to put his name in. Also, there is the T20 World Cup to prepare for, with the Australians aiming to repeat their 2021 efforts where they won in the UAE.
“A good opportunity to see if anyone’s interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup. And it’s somewhat of a quiet winter next year … in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in,” Starc continued.
It is no secret that Starc offers value in the crunch powerplay and death overs, plus the variety as a left-arm option. One can only imagine the amount franchises will pay for Starc’s services, especially if he has a big ODI World Cup in India.
There is every chance he will have a big tournament. The 50-over World Cup is Starc’s kryptonite, taking 49 wickets overall at an average of 14.8 and strike rate of 19.1.
Currently, Starc is recovering from injury and is out of Australia’s five ODIs in South Africa. He is expected to be fit and ready for the World Cup, where he will be vital in Australia’s quest of their sixth crown.
