Cricket News: Reactions – Jonny Bairstow carries oil protestor off Lord’s ground | Reactions to Jonny Bairstow carrying climate protestor

They said anything could happen in this Ashes series, but who had “Jonny Bairstow carrying an oil protestor to the Lord’s boundary” on their bingo card?

Two protestors ran onto the Lord’s turf wearing “Just Stop Oil” shirts. They were carrying bags of orange powder, bringing play to a standstill after just one over. Jonny Bairstow took matters into his own hands, picking up one of the protestors and carrying him all the way to the boundary rope.

The second protestor, blocked by Ben Stokes and David Warner, poured powder near the run up at the Nursery End. Play was delayed as Bairstow had to change his shirt and wicket-keeping gloves, while a leaf blowers were used to remove the powder off the field.

The Just Stop Oil group has staged protests all around England. A second pitch was prepared in the Edgbaston Test with the possibility of Just Stop Oil protestors invading the ground.

Australia finished the first session 73/1, with Josh Tongue dismissing Usman Khawaja right on the stroke of lunch. The surface has offered movement for the bowlers, but there are runs on offer.
