Cricket News: ”They don’t play fearless cricket enough” – Simon Doull On India’s Biggest Issue In ICC Events | Simon Doull shares thoughts on India
Former New Zealand fast bowler and veteran broadcaster Simon Doull has said that the inability of the Indian players to play “fearless cricket’ when it matters has been the reason for their downfall in the past few world events.
Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket while analysing India’s chances at the upcoming World Cup, Doull alleged that the Indian players are ‘stats driven’, and this defensive mindset is what holds them back in World Cups.
The former Kiwi international further added that India boasts of some of the finest talents in the world, but their inability to unlock their full potential because of fear of mass scrutiny is what’s holding them back.
Doull added that the biggest question mark on India leading into this World Cup is whether they can bring all their pieces together and play a brand of cricket that is needed to win knockout games.
Here’s what Simon Doull said regarding India in ICC events:
“Fearless cricket is their issue. They don’t play fearless cricket enough. They are too worried about their stats, too often. To me, that is the one area that I’m concerned about their batting side of things.
They have got all the talent, and some of the best players in the world. But, it is about playing fearless cricket at the right time of the tournament. That is what’s really let them down in the past few World Cups.
They don’t go out there and take risks because they are so worried about what might be said or printed or what someone else might say or their position in the team. They have all the parts but, can they put it together and can they play the style of cricket that lets them win a World Cup”.

Meanwhile, Team India displayed a ruthless brand of cricket in the recent Asia Cup as they dismantled Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final to claim their maiden multi-national trophy since 2018.
Can the Rohit Sharma-led unit repeat the same in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023? The Men in Blue will kickstart their pursuit for a third 50-over title against 5-time champions Australia at the Chepauk in Chennai on October 8.
