Rinku Singh produced an absolute blinder of a knock as he hit five sixes in the final over of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) to help the visitors take two points from this away fixture on Sunday. Chasing 205, KKR were down to 155/7 in the 17th over and then needed 39 off eight balls, followed by 29 off six balls to win.
However, Rinku kept his calm and slammed five consecutive sixes to take his side home. He first capitalised on the full tosses that Dayal conceded, arguably out of haste. However, the bowler corrected his length later on but it was not enough to break Rinku’s momentum who hit a six right down the ground to round off one of the most spectacular chases ever in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Had the belief that I can do it. Last year I was in a similar situation in Lucknow. Had the belief back then too. Didn’t think too much out there. Those shots just happened one after the other. That last one was back of the hand, and I struck it off the back foot,” Rinku commented on the innings in the post-match press conference.
“When the second six was struck, we started believing more because Yash Dayal wasn’t executing that well. As a captain, it’s important to have the belief. But this is a 1 in a 100 chance for something like this to happen,” KKR captain Nitish Rana reflected on Rinku’s performance after the game.
