India triumphed over New Zealand by 12 runs in the opening ODI between the two sides at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Shubman Gill took over centre-stage with an incredible double century as his 208 powered the home side to 350 in the first innings.
However, Michael Bracewell struck back well with a knock of 140 to help the Kiwis run Rohit Sharma’s men close in an exciting encounter. Twitter went berserk on a day when the entire world witnessed two historic knocks played by young guns from both sides. Here are some of the best reactions on the popular social networking platform.

While Gill stole the show in the first innings, Bracewell played an absolute blinder to drag the Kiwis back in the game. India got New Zealand down to 131/6 in the 29th over but Bracewell stuck along with Mitchell Santner to turn the tables quite swiftly. The duo stitched a 162-run partnership in 17 overs to take the visitors very close to what could have turned out to be a victory for the ages. Bracewell’s 140 runs came in merely 78 deliveries as he plundered the Indian bowlers to 12 boundaries and 10 sixes and accordingly garnered immense applause on Twitter.
The second ODI between the two sides will take place at Raipur in Chhatisgarh on Saturday (21st January).
