Cricket News: Twitter reactions to Steve Smith’s 32nd Test century | Reactions to Smith’s 32 Test hundred, achieved at Lord’s
“It’s not that he’s dominated just one team or one country, he’s been able to do it all over the world,” said Ricky Ponting about Steve Smith on commentary. Nasser Hussain said “we are witnessing greatness in front of our eyes. One of the all-time greats,” as Smith raised his bat aloft for a 32nd time.
And how right they are.
It always needs reminding that Smith began his Test career in 2010 as a legspinner who batted at eight. 13 years later, he notched up his 32nd Test hundred before his 100th match. In the process, Smith has gone equal with Steve Waugh in terms of most Test centuries for Australia, but the great Waugh played an extra 69 Tests. Remarkable.
Smith’s hundred was a masterclass in batting. On a Lord’s pitch with assistance for the seamers, Smith came out with positive intent and displayed such great control. He looked to cover the line of the deliveries as best he could, and he succeeded in superb fashion.
During the innings, Smith also reached 9,000 Test runs. It is hard to find the abjectives to describe what this great player continues to achieve, so we’ll just enjoy the ride.
