Cricket News: What is the highest total in IPL history? | List of highest totals in the Indian Premier League (IPL)
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) belted an incredible 257/5 in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), with Punjab Kings on the wrong end of the onslaught. But where does this massive total sit in the list of highest totals in IPL history?
In this article, we’ll look at the top five, with some details on each.
List: Which team has the highest total in IPL history?
5. 245/6 by Kolkata Knight Riders against Kings XI Punjab, 2018
Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) felt the brunt of a strong Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lineup in 2018. Opening the batting, Sunil Narine belted 75 off 36 balls, followed by Dinesh Karthik’s whirlwind 50 off 23 balls to drive the Knight Riders to this huge total.
Punjab replied with a respectable 214/8 themselves, but they were still well short.
4. 246/5 by Chennai Super Kings against Rajasthan Royals, 2010
2010 and 2011 was truly a golden period for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). During the 2010 season, Murali Vijay hit a memorable 57-ball 127 to lead CSK to a mammoth 246/5, where only one Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowler, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, conceded less than ten per over.
Albie Morkel (62 off 34 balls) also went ballistic. The great MS Dhoni only faced one ball. In the end, despite RR’s best efforts, CSK won by 23 runs.
3. 248/3 by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Gujarat Lions, 2016
2016 is the season that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans wonder what could have been. Virat Kohli hit one of his four centuries in that campaign against Gujarat Lions (109 off 55 balls), where he was complemented by the great AB de Villiers who smashed an incredible 129* off 52 balls.
Kohli and de Villiers put on a 229-run stand in just 16 overs. The Lions were never in the hunt, bundled out for just 104.
2. 257/5 by Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings, 2023
LSG’s 257 is the second-highest total in IPL history. Marcus Stoinis continued his love affair with Punjab, smashing 72 off 40 balls after Kyle Mayers’ superb 24-ball 54. Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19) also contributed big time on a beautiful batting surface at Mohali.
Punjab replied with their own 200+ score (201), but they were still hammered by 56 runs.
1. 263/5 by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors, 2013
The night Chris Gayle went beserk. His 175* remains the highest score in the IPL, which included 13 fours and 17 sixes. In just 66 balls, Gayle created memories that will last a lifetime for himself, his teammates, the crowd and those watching on television.
Pune Warriors were never in the hunt, finishing with just 133/9 to lose by a mammoth 130 runs.
