Cricket News: What is the update on injuries to Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes? | Deepak Chahar & Ben Stokes injury update
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar is set to undergo an extended period on the sidelines after limping off the ground due to a hamstring injury in the first over of the team’s clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Chahar will go through scans upon returning to Chennai and that will fully determine the extent of his injury. However, CSK might have to prepare for life without him for the time being at least.
Acquired for Rs 14 crore in the mega auction last year, Chahar sat out of the entirety of the previous IPL season due to first a quadricep and then a back injury. He then missed a lot of cricketing action for India as well and the pacer’s injury concerns do not seem to be receding anytime soon.
On the other hand, star all-rounder Ben Stokes is also out for a week due to a toe injury. Stokes sat out of the high-profile fixture against MI and is likely to miss Chennai’s game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Chepauk as well.
Stokes will only be back for CSK’s fixture against the RCB on April 17. Meanwhile, Moeen Ali missed the previous game against MI allegedly due to food poisoning but the off-spinning all-rounder is expected to be back in the mix against RR on Wednesday.
Chennai coped fairly well without the trio of Stokes, Moeen and Chahar against Mumbai. Tushar Deshpande stepped up big time with the ball – returning with figures of 3-0-31-2.
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane’s 61-run blitzkrieg ensured that Chennai did not feel the absence of Stokes and Moeen in the middle-order. The Sri Lankan duo of Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana will be back in contention for selection against RR and Dhoni might have some key calls to make regards to who makes it to the playing XI considering the rich form shown by Rahane, Dwaine Pretorious and even Sisanda Magala to an extent in Mumbai.
