Cricket News: Will Jasprit Bumrah be fit for IPL 2023? | India monitoring workload of Jasprit Bumrah ahead of IPL 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might monitor the workload of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as and when the 29-year-old returns to competitive cricket in the coming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bumrah is currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The NCA has not cleared him to be considered for a call-up to the national team yet.

Bumrah, who last played an international game in a T20I against Australia on September 25, has played a couple of practice matches at the NCA in the last 10 days. The BCCI does not see Bumrah returning straight to the IPL as a point of concern considering that they were anyways wanting to build up the intensity of his workload block by block upon his return, Cricbuzz reports.

In that case, playing a set of T20 games before gearing up for a prospective World Test Championship (WTC) finale and the ODI World Cup later on this year seem to be ideal for the injury-hit pacer. However, so far, it has not been confirmed whether Bumrah’s employer Mumbai Indians (MI) will agree to any sort of restrictions over his workload during the course of the IPL.

The aforementioned portal reports that there have been occasions in the past when international boards have issued conditional no-objection certificates (NOCs) for their players.

This includes certain clauses such as not making the bowler bowl over 24 deliveries in the nets, not playing them in more than a specified number of games consecutively and also obtaining their fitness parameters on timely intervals. To ensure a fair process, the BCCI might as well make these guidelines mandatory for every bowler.

Meanwhile, Bumrah was not named in the squads either for the remaining two Tests vs Australia nor the three ODIs in March against the visitors on Sunday.
