English pacer Mark Wood is reportedly set to be ruled out of the second T20 World Cup Semi-Final against India. Whilst training on Tuesday, Wood pulled out of his runup due to muscle stifness, and is expected to miss the match.

Matt Roller of ESPNcricinfo reports that Chris Jordan will replace Wood, should he be ruled out. Jordan has played just the one competitive match since sustaining a finger injury in the Hundred. In that match, the seamer conceded 0/39 in three overs in a T20I against Australia. However, England will be sure to turn to his experience at the death.

Mark Wood and Dawid Malan likely to miss Semi Final against India

Reportedly, there was some unrest in the England camp as Wood opted out of the session. He has already picked nine wickets in four matches of the ongoing World Cup at an economy rate and bowling strike rate of 7.71 and 9.33 respectively.

He infuses sheer pace and an innate partnership-breaking ability in the English bowling unit and is particularly useful and efficient during the middle phase of an innings.

Moreover, the Jos Buttler-led side is already dealing with certain injury concerns. Key batsman Dawid Malan is set to miss the semi-final encounter due to a minor strain on the left side of his groin. Phil Salt is expected to replace the southpaw in the playing XI against India.

“The great thing with this side is there are so many options, you can put Ben Stokes at three, you can put Phil Salt at three, myself or whoever, there are so many options,” vice-captain Moeen Ali reflected on Malan’s absence, as reported by Sky Sports.

Ali added, “Malan would obviously be a big miss because he’s a brilliant player in T20 cricket and he has been over a long period of time – that’s if he doesn’t play, I actually don’t know yet. It doesn’t look great.”

The track on which the India vs England game will be played has already hosted two matches in this World Cup so far. The pitch is likely to assist batsmen as there is limited grass covering on the surface as well.

The dimensions of the ground are such that the straight boundary is about 75-80 meters long whereas the square boundaries are comparatively shorter. All these factors are set to play a key role as the two teams set aside to brush up their final plans for this marquee encounter.
