Gujarat Titans (GT), remarkably, have finished top of the league for the second time in a row, losing just four matches along the way. It is an identical record to their first season in 2022, where they then found another gear in the playoffs to beat Rajasthan Royals twice. Now, they head into the playoffs in superb form, led by the magnificent Shubman Gill who has struck consecutive hundreds and a 94* in his past four knocks.

But, if there is any team who can spoil the Gujarat party, it’s MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Mighty efficient and consistent, CSK locked up a deserved top-two spot, overcoming a shaky start to this season by effectively utilising the resources at hand. Think Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana, all of whom have elevated CSK’s team to another level this season alongside the magnificent opening combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway.

Confidence is high in the quest for a record-equaling fifth IPL title. Confidence is also high in the GT camp in the quest for back-to-back titles. So, this has the makings of a magnificent Qualifier 1 matchup.

Gujarat Titans:

• Shubman Gill is in incredible form. He comes into this match off the back of two consecutive centuries. He struck a 36-ball 63 against CSK back in the first match of IPL 2023.
• Wriddhiman Saha has scored just 14 runs in his past three knocks. Previously before that, he smashed 81 at Ahmedabad. Against CSK, he has scored 278 runs in 13 innings at an average of 30.89 and strike rate of 118.80.
• David Miller has an excellent record against CSK. In 13 innings, he has hammered 364 runs at an average of 40.44 and strike rate of 142.19.
• Since the start of 2022, Miller has scored 447 runs at an average of 89.4 and strike rate of 150 when chasing in the IPL.
• Rashid Khan (24 wickets this season) was player of the match against CSK earlier this season. He took 2/26 and smashed 10* (3).
• Mohammed Shami (24 wickets this season) will be vital against the strong CSK opening partnership. He has never dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad, but the CSK opener has scored just 40 runs in 57 balls. Also, Shami has dismissed Devon Conway twice in eight balls in the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings:

• Ruturaj Gaikwad belted 92 (50) against GT earlier in IPL 2023. He strikes at 146.7 against Rashid Khan in the IPL (45 balls, 66 runs, two dismissals).
• Devon Conway is coming off a thumping 87 (52) against DC. He is CSK’s leading run-scorer this season with an impressive 585 (avg. 53.18, SR 138.62), which includes six fifties in 13 innings.
• Watch out for Shivam Dube in the middle overs. Out of his 385 runs this season, 291 have come between overs 7-16 at a strike rate of 153.2.
• Ravindra Jadeja has taken at least one wicket in eight of his last ten matches. Also, he has hit a 20+ score in four of his past five knocks.
• Deepak Chahar is crucial for CSK. He has dismissed Shubman Gill twice in 37 balls in the IPL (49 runs). Also, he has dismissed Miller once in 12 balls for 14 runs in the IPL.
• Tushar Deshpande is one of six bowlers to have taken 20+ wickets this season. His economy is high (9.52), but his strike rate of 14.65 makes him one to watch.
