CWC 2019 Match 17: Australia v Pakistan Preview Dream11. AUS vs PAK Dream11 Prediction
Result or no result? That is the question.
Thanks to the ICC, we have waited four years to fix our eyes on weather forecasts. As rain, predictably in England at this time of year, continues to affect matches, Australia and Pakistan meet in an predictably unpredictable blockbuster.
We could be in for a beauty if the weather is kind. Australia will be looking to bounce back, losing to India in Sunday’s huge clash at The Oval. Aaron Finch’s men were swept by the sea of blue both in the crowd and on the pitch, outplayed en route to a 36-run defeat. With Semi Final spots at a premium, Australia can’t afford another slip up. Will they bounce back?
It has felt like an age since Pakistan achieved an incredible win over England. We have forgotten what they look like. They are right to feel a little robbed to not play against Sri Lanka – a team they have dominated in World Cups. A washout and nine days later, Pakistan face the prospect of another rain-affected match, which is a blow as they look to build momentum. They certainly have the resources to test any team in the world, and if they can cause Australia trouble, who’s to say Pakistan can’t be a significant threat in this tournament?
The players can put on a show. Here’s hoping the weather allows for it.

Key to an Australia win
The make up and form of Australia’s attack means plenty rested on Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins against India. Nathan Coulter-Nile has been under par – despite fighting back against India, and Adam Zampa has bowled so many loose deliveries that Aaron Finch used Glenn Maxwell more at The Oval. With Marcus Stoinis ruled out with a side strain, Australia might continue to play Nathan Coulter-Nile for all-round cover. To win here, and be the threat in the tournament many thought they could be, Australia need a cohesive bowling display that has everyone pulling their weight. Remember, Pakistan struggled against the short ball against West Indies, so this is an area Australia can look to pounce. Also, can Australia improve their bowling at the death after a pathetic display against India?
Also, can David Warner find greater fluency? His innings on Sunday was a major blow to Australia’s hopes of a record chase, playing too many dots when the situation required otherwise. With Aaron Finch and Steve Smith looking in fine form, Australia can hope to set a good platform, especially if they can overcome Pakistan’s short-ball efforts in the powerplay overs. Both Glenn Maxwell and in-form Alex Carey must capitalise, even though Stoinis wasn’t really contributing with the bat anyway.
Key to a Pakistan win
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan set the template for how to play Australia. They were patient against Starc and Cummins, then cashing in on bowlers who are out of touch. Can Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq do the same? Encouragingly, they were able to get Pakistan off to a flyer in their win against England, and much rests on their start. With the likes of Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez in good touch, Pakistan can look to score a big total.

Also, can Pakistan increase pressure on Australia’s batsmen? Dot balls against Warner can force he and Australia to become more agitated, leaving more for the likes of Aaron Finch and Steve Smith to do. The key stat here is that Warner has a dot ball percentage of over 50 against Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Hafeez in ODIs. Tight bowling, indispersed with good short balls, can deliver a great powerplay for Pakistan. If Pakistan put significant pressure on Australia’s middle order like West Indies had the chance to, it might just help them get a big win.
Pitch and conditions
There was some bounce on offer in Taunton in the match between Afghanistan and New Zealand. The forecast for this match is for showers. But, there is hope that we could get a match as it is a 50% chance of rain.
Possible Playing 11
Marcus Stoinis is out for Australia, leaving Australia with a few choices. Shaun Marsh can come in but a team with Smith, Khawaja and Marsh in it might be too similar. Adam Zampa has not mirrored his ODI form of earlier this year, so Nathan Lyon could be preferred for more control. Also, Nathan Coulter-Nile could get another chance as Australia might guard against using Maxwell as the fifth bowler.
Australia: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. David Warner, 3. Usman Khawaja, 4. Steve Smith, 5. Glenn Maxwell, 6. Alex Carey (wk), 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. Jason Behrendhorff/Kane Richardson, 11. Nathan Lyon/Adam Zampa
Pakistan might stick with the same team that beat England. Remember it?
Pakistan: 1. Imam-ul-Haq, 2. Fakhar Zaman, 3. Babar Azam, 4. Mohammad Hafeez, 5. Shoaib Malik, 6. Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), 7. Asif Ali, 8. Shadab Khan, 9. Hasan Ali, 10. Mohammad Amir, 11. Wahab Riaz

Match Prediction
There is hope that the weather will allow for a result. If so, we are in for a cracking game.
Pakistan will give Australia a tough game. You just have that feeling. However, Australia will be out to improve on their showing against India, and I think they will get the job done courtesy of their batsmen.
Australia to win.
