IND vs WI 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | IND vs WI 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Key Players | Ahmedabad Pitch Report
Watching West Indies in ODIs is like a horror movie. Since the start of 2019, the men in maroon have lost 26 of their 47 ODIs, including four of their past five series with the latest being a demoralising 2-1 defeat at home to Ireland.
And things didn’t get better in the first ODI in India. Apart from Jason Holder’s resistance and Alzarri Joseph’s double-wicket over, the Windies were never in the game, succumbing the spin and guile of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar. If they are to mount a challenge in this ODI series, it is their batting that needs to stand up and put runs on the board to leave the Indians with some thinking to do.
And it is an India side that is bound to get stronger. Three of the four players who had COVID-19 have restarted training, while KL Rahul is available again. Chahal and Washington Sundar were impressive in the spin department, partnering a pace attack that did show greater efficiency as compared to India’s recent disappointment in South Africa.
The task is simple for India. Continue building towards the 2023 World Cup with an all-round performance, particularly with the middle order contributing where possible. For the Windies, it is about getting into the game early and staying with India as long as they can.
Possible Playing 11
Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Navdeep Saini had a light training session after testing negative for COVID-19. However, India could give them a little more time to recover and recoup.
KL Rahul is back from personal leave and could slot in as opener, meaning Ishan Kishan will miss out. Another option is KL Rahul coming in for Deepak Hooda.
India: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. KL Rahul, 3. Virat Kohli, 4. Rishabh Pant (wk), 5. Suryakumar Yadav, 6. Deepak Hooda, 7. Washington Sundar, 8. Shardul Thakur, 9. Mohammed Siraj, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Prasidh Krishna
West Indies could stick with the same team in the quest to level the series.
West Indies: 1. Shai Hope (wk), 2. Brandon King, 3. Darren Bravo, 4. Shamarh Brooks, 5. Nicholas Pooran, 6. Kieron Pollard (c), 7. Jason Holder, 8. Fabian Allen, 9. Akeal Hosein, 10. Alzarri Joseph, 11. Kemar Roach
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
India:
- Rohit Sharma looked in excellent touch in the first ODI. The skipper hammered a 51-ball 60, cut short by Alzarri Joseph when he looked set for more. It was another chapter in Rohit’s excellent record vs West Indies, which reads: 32 innings, 1,583 runs, avg. 60.88, SR 92.35.
- At home, the numbers are even better for Rohit against the Windies: 17 innings, 1,100 runs, avg. 78.57, SR 101.10.
- KL Rahul is set to return to the ODI lineup. He has a century and half-century in four ODIs vs West Indies.
- It was certainly an uncharacteristic innings by Virat Kohli in the first ODI. The great batsman still has good numbers since his last ODI hundred back in August 2019, with an average of over 40 and strike rate in the 90s. He has crossed 50 ten times in this period.
- Kohli has the most runs in India-West Indies ODIs, with 2,243 runs at an average of 70.09 and strike rate of 97.52.
- Suryakumar Yadav was composed and classy as ever in what could have been a tricky situation for India in the first ODI. His 34* along with Deepak Hooda’s 26* led India home comfortably. Suryakumar now averages 65.56 in five ODIs.
- Yuzvendra Chahal proved why he is one of the top contenders for leading wicket-taker in this IND-WI ODI series. He was outstanding in the first match, finding spin and drift to bamboozle the Windies en-route 4/49. Washington Sundar (3/30) was also brilliant.
- Mohammed Siraj will be key once again in the powerplay, especially with his off-cutters. His battle with Shai Hope will make for interesting viewing. Prasidh Krishna had one of his finest days in an India shirt (2/29), and will be looking to back it up here.
West Indies:
- Shai Hope will be key to the Windies’ hopes. He has the ability to hold an innings together. Despite his failure in the first match. Hope still has a terrific record against India, with 701 runs in 17 innings at an average of 50.07. In India, this average bumps up to 68.57 in nine matches.
- Nicholas Pooran was looking in promising touch in the first ODI (18 off 25 balls) before falling LBW to Chahal. Pooran came into this series on the back of some good T20 form, so the Windies will be hoping for a big contribution.
- Time to push Jason Holder up the order? His 57 saved the Windies from greater embarrassment in the first ODI. In fact, he has come out to bat 19 times before the 25th over since the 2015 World Cup, and he averages 35.25 and strikes at 88 in such circumstances.
- Holder averages a respectable 33.75 with the bat in ODIs in India, but his bowling figures make for sorry reading. His seven wickets in India cost 87.14 apiece.
- Alzarri Joseph has been one of West Indies’ bright spots in ODIs in recent times. He will once again look to hit the pitch hard but produce more economical bowling after his 2/45 in seven overs on Sunday.
- The impressive Akeal Hosein has taken at least one wicket in each of his last 11 internationals.
Stats and Facts
- Among players in the Windies squad, only Shai Hope averages more than Virat Kohli’s 40.68 since August 2019.
- Yuzvendra Chahal’s average of 27.27 is the best among Indian spinners with at least 100 ODI wickets.
- Since the start of 2019, West Indies’ top seven average just 34.33 per wicket in ODIs against Full Member sides excluding Ireland and Zimbabwe. Only Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have worse numbers.
Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad Pitch Report and Weather
It was a tricky surface to bat on in the first ODI, with movement and turn available to the pace and spin bowlers. Dew didn’t play a huge role in the first match, but the captains may still look to chase anyway under lights. Expect the spinners to play a role once again.
