Two teams with a very aggressive approach, India and the West Indies, will meet in the 52nd match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Eden Gardens, Chennai, will host this game on 1st March 2026 at 7 PM IST. It’s a do-or-die game for both teams to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

India defeated Zimbabwe in their last game, but they still failed to perform at their best as a side. Dropped catches helped them, while a few decisions like bowling Shivam Dube are some areas where they need to work on. Abhishek Sharma finally got going, but he still didn’t look at his fluent best.

The form of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya form is their strength, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah also continued on their consistency. This is a must-win game for team India, and they’ll have to be on their toes against the Windies.

The West Indies, meanwhile, lost their last game against South Africa by nine wickets. Their batters continued their ‘go big or go home’ approach, and they found themselves struggling at 83-7 before Jason Holder (49 runs) and Romario Shepherd (52*) steadied the ship.

Shai Hope and Brandon King’s inconsistency at the top is a big concern for them, while the bowlers also looked helpless in the last match. Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, and Romario Shepherd will be the key batters for the two-time champions.

Bowling-wise, they need the likes of Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde to deliver in this all-important encounter. Their batting depth is the main strength for the West Indies, and they’ll have to be at their best against a very strong Indian side.

This promises to be one of the best matches in the tournament as two explosive sides will lock horns in a virtual quarter-final.

Fantasy Cricket Tips for IND vs WI: Players to Watch/Key Stats

Top Wicket-Keeper Picks:

  • Ishan Kishan has 214 runs at an average of 35.66 and has struck at a rate of 186.08. He is getting his side off to a flying start in almost every match and will be a key batter for India at the top. He will be a good C/VC option as well.

Key batter picks:

  • Abhishek Sharma scored 55 runs in the last game after a string of low scores. He’ll be itching to continue his form from the last game and do well against the West Indies. He can decimate any bowling attack on his day. Abhishek is another good C/VC choice.
  • Suryakumar Yadav did well in the last game, and his side will expect more from him in this game and in the upcoming games if India qualifies. He plays all around the ground and has scored 213 runs at an average of 42.60, but his strike rate is on the lower side – 138.31. Surya will be an excellent C/VC pick.
  • Shimron Hetmyer has been the main man for the Windies with the bat. He has 221 runs in six games at an average of 44.20 and has struck at 182.64 with two fifties in this WC. He’s good against the spinners and will play a crucial role against the Indian spinners.
  • Sherfane Rutherford has been in terrific touch since the SA20 2025-26. He has been scoring runs consistently and averages 84.50 at a strike rate of 181.72 for his 169 runs in five innings this tournament. He will be a must in your fantasy teams.

Top all-rounder picks:

  • Hardik Pandya is the backbone of the Indian team. He contributes in every game with both bat and ball. Hardik has 155 runs and 5 wickets in 6 matches. He will be an ideal C/VC choice, considering his all-round attributes.
  • Shivam Dube is bowling 2-3 overs in every game and has been in top form with the bat. He will be the key batter against the West Indian spin attack. He has five wickets and 158 runs in six matches so far. Try him as C/VC in some of your teams.
  • Jason Holder is in sublime touch with the bat, and twice he has scored crucial runs down the order for his team. He has 104 runs and eight wickets to his name till now. Holder will be a key bowler for his side with the new ball, as they must pick up early wickets if they are to win.
  • Romario Shepherd scored 52* runs in the last game. He’s one of the most aggressive batters going around and can turn the game on its head when on song. Shepherd will bowl 2-3 overs, as he can trouble the Indian batters with his hard lengths.
  • Roston Chase can trouble the Indian batters, as they’ve had their struggles against off-spin in recent times. Chase is a wily bowler and can be a threat to the Indian left-handers. He’s good against the spinners and can contribute with the bat too.

Key bowler picks:

  • Jasprit Bumrah has seven wickets in the tournament so far. He will pose a big threat to the West Indian batters as they like to attack the bowlers. Try him as C/VC in this match, as he can pick up wickets in clusters.
  • Varun Chakaravarthy is another threat to the West Indies considering how they like to bat. He can pick up 2-3 wickets easily if they go on to attack him. He’ll be an ideal C/VC pick too.

Both sides like to bat aggressively and take on the bowlers. The West Indies have insane batting depth, while India also bats very deep. The game will be decided on how the spinners perform from either of the two teams. The West Indies will have to take on Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy, and it may prove too much for them.

India to win.
